"As a soon to be graduate with the world in lockdown I was contemplating how to gain that initial industry experience."

Hello! I’m Tegan, a final year Pharmaceutical Science student at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. I recently completed an internship remotely with Absolute Internship. I intended on travelling and working within Barcelona itself, however, with this no longer possible I began researching other ways to experience the work life balance in an entirely different city.

The majority of students that start their careers right after graduating from university have undertaken at least one internship in their relevant field. We have interviewed three Absolute Internship alumni to find out about their journeys from undertaking their first internship with AI to graduating from university and securing their first full-time job. We are hoping that their success stories inspire you to embark on an internship program or consider only an internship placement in your field of interest!

How Can You Adapt?

Summer is coming to an end but we can all agree that this fall is going to be very different to previous years. Universities and schools might remain closed and classes will most probably be conducted online. Nonetheless, students and recent graduates can still embark on international internship opportunities during the pandemic, and show employers that you're willing to gain professional experience.

Summer 2020 did not turn out the way we thought it would half a year ago. Travel plans are most likely cancelled, festivals are postponed and schools are closed or operate on strict limits. You’re also not supposed to hang out with friends too much, so basically you’re stuck at home.

However, this doesn’t mean you should be just lazing around and doing nothing. There are actually quite a few things you can do and activate yourself with and make of summer 2020 a very productive one!

Absolute Internship connects university students worldwide with employers based in multiple cities around the globe, providing the opportunity to take part in an international internship in Asia or Europe and to gain life-changing experience at the same time, Get engaged from the comfort of your home through a remote internship program, or by embarking on an in-person adventure  travelling overseas exploring a new culture, boosting your career development and increasing professional prospects for the future are part of every Absolute program.

Like most growing trends, the concept of a Remote Internship might raise some red flags and doubts to the layperson. It is normal, as human beings we usually tend to reject the unknown at first. But we live in a world that is open to new methods as long as they prove beneficial and most of all, sustainable in the long run.

How do you find remote internships? Are remote internships as good as an on-site internship? What is a virtual internship experience like? The questions are endless when you’re a university student. We hear you. It’s not easy. You might have heard from your classmates about virtual internships that people are doing from home, but how does it work? Are remote internships legit? Will future employers value my remote internship experience? Don’t worry. We’re here to share some eye-opening facts about virtual internships that you might not know, which will help guide you in making a decision about a remote internship and if one is right for you!
