21 Dec Shanghai Awaits!
Hi Everyone, my name is Tanmay and I am currently studying a Bachelors of Business degree from the University of Technology, Sydney majoring in Finance and Economics. As I approach towards the end of my bachelor’s degree, I am about to embark on an amazing adventure to one of the greatest cities in the world – Shanghai. I will be undertaking a one-month internship with a financial firm and I will document all my adventures and experiences through this blog.
Firstly, here is a little more about me. I was born in Delhi, India and my parents and I migrated to Australia in 2000. As I have spent the majority of my life here, I have become more accustomed to the Australian way of life, however I do cherish my native values as well. My main passions are sport, movies, entertainment and recently a penchant for travelling. I generally keep myself busy with University, playing and watching sport and spending quality time with family and friends. The ideal day would be to hit the beach with some mates, throw a footy around and enjoy the water with chilled beverages. However, this summer I’m putting that on the backburner to complete this internship, which I’m sure, will provide me with invaluable experiences and give me the opportunity to work with and meet amazing people.
This isn’t the first time I’m visiting Shanghai. In January of 2012, my family and I spent a week in Shanghai enjoying the amazing city and everything it had to offer. We were there during the Chinese New Year, witnessing the year of the Dragon. The city was sparkling with lights and the atmosphere was electric coupled with extraordinary fireworks.
However this time, I’ll be there for a different reason, and enjoying everything the city has to offer with new friends and experiencing the Chinese culture at its best. I’m looking forward to experiencing the city from a business perspective and I know that I will enjoy it more this time around. I can’t wait to quench my thirst for learning and experience working in another country and applying all that I have learnt in my degree in the corporate world with hands-on experience. This adventure will enable me to learn and grow as an individual and a professional. I am looking forward to gaining knowledge from highly experienced industry professionals, all of which will be extremely helpful in my future career path.
As my prior visit was purely exploring the city from a tourists perspective, this time I can expect to experience unique culture in a city which has a population greater than all of Australia. Shanghai is also one of the largest financial capitals in the world. I’m looking forward to learning some Mandarin, visiting museums, enjoying local artworks, and relishing local food and drinks. Learning the local etiquettes may be challenging, however I will welcome it with open arms and endeavor to fit in as well as I can.
I can expect a challenging working environment coupled with amazing trips with my new friends. The internship itself will help me develop a range of important skills in the financial sector and these will complement my previous work experiences. So all I can do now is wait till I have to board my flight and engage in what will be a remarkable journey. This internship though Absolute Internship will be a fascinating chapter of my life and I cant wait to get started.
