23 Dec Until I arrive in Shanghai
Hi Everyone! I’m Michael and I study at the Queensland University of Technology. I have just about finished my Bachelor of Business degree, with an expected finish date of February 2014. My main study area is Management, with a minor in Human Resources. My degree is part of the accelerated program, which means that I complete my degree in two years, instead of the usual three. This has meant that I have had to complete an extra subject every semester, as well as studying over summer. Safe to say, it can get a bit testing at times, however as I am nearing the end, I can definitely see that it has been worth it. I am currently completing a large project, which is the last assignment of my degree, and I hope to finish that off before I set off to Shanghai. Next year, I am undertaking a research scholarship in semester one, and then that will be followed by an Honours year to be finished in June 2015.
Here’s a little bit more about me: I have lived in Australia all of my life, and I am a sports fanatic. I have played a range of sports including Football, AFL, Cricket and Basketball, however now I only referee and coach basketball. When I am not studying or working, I am either participating in or spectating some sort of sport. I am a football fanatic and I love my local team, Brisbane Roar, as well as Liverpool FC. It is safe to say that I will be found watching the cricket and football when I am in China.
I am super excited about Shanghai! I have previously visited Shanghai in 2010 when the city was hosting World Expo. Once I got over the initial cultural shock, I had an amazing time in what is one of the world’s fastest growing cities! I cannot wait to visit there again, particularly as I will now be working in the city. I am looking forward to experiencing what it is like to work in a full-time job in such a vibrant city. The Absolute Internship Program seems amazing. I am especially looking forward to the day trips where I will be able to experience the sites and culture that Shanghai and China has to offer. I am also excited to meet likeminded individuals and make new friends from all around the globe. I am excited to undertake a program that will allow me to improve the skills that I have learnt through my university studies, and learn knowledge that will allow me to improve my career prospects.
There is a month until I leave for China, and I am super excited! So until I arrive in Shanghai, this is goodbye!
