19 Jul Thanks Absolute!
Whether it be a speech from an experienced professional, a trip to another Chinese city, or a happy hour with the group after a hard day at work, Absolute Internship has worked diligently to provide us with the best experience of our lives. I am extremely thankful for all of their efforts. To be completely honest, there were aspects of the trip that I did not like, there were administrative mistakes, but without the events put on by Absolute, my experience in China would not be the same.
One of my favorite events put on by absolute was a presentation presented by Jackie, Co-Founder of Wagas. She told her life story and how she went from a 23 year-old living with her parents with no job, to an owner of restaurant with 58 locations throughout China. She was very personable and empowered me to have faith in myself. She never went to college to get a degree in business, nor did she know how to run a business. She simply claimed, “I winged it!” To me, that was incredible. It encouraged me to trust my gut and never doubt myself with business decisions, or any decisions for that matter. My favorite quote from Jackie in regards to the Chinese and Western cultures was, “Sometimes, you just have to laugh.” She did not mean, laugh at the Chinese, but laugh at our differences. She explained that people get so caught up in being offended by the differences amongst separate cultures, when it is much easier to be objective and have fun with it.
By far my most memorable time in China, was at Absolute’s sponsored trip to Beijing. We went to Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City, The Temple of Heaven, The Summer Palace, and my personal favorite, The Great Wall of China. The whole trip was great! It was a healthy balance of organized fun and free time to check out the city. For me, The Great Wall was the best event of this trip. I had always dreamed of going and was stunned to find myself on top of one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It was an exhilaration that cannot be replicated. I guess, this whole trip has been an experience that cannot be replicated. I need to make the most out of this last week!
