17 Dec Next stop, Shanghai!
My name is Phoebe Gunputh and I am a recent Masters graduate. I studied my undergraduate degree in Law at the University of Sussex in my home town of Brighton and recently moved back here after spending the last year living in Paris to study a Masters in International Business Law with Queen Mary University.
My hobbies include regular exercise coupled with a keen interest in food and cooking. I was excited to hear that the Shanghai accommodation includes a gym, mostly because I need somewhere to work off all the culinary delights I plan to try! When I’m not working or studying I really try to focus on enjoying myself, I love going out with my friends and work as a cocktail waitress on weekends. My hectic schedule and ‘work hard play hard’ attitude leave me busy –but that’s the way I like it.
Brighton is a bustling cosmopolitan city situated on the South coast of England. Brighton’s varied culture and thriving social scene has earned it the nickname ‘London-by-Sea’ and growing up here leaves me constantly craving the pace of a busy city.
Completion of my degree led me to Paris to continue my studies and experience La Vie Française in France’s beautiful capital. Cheese, wine, bread and expresso filled an exciting and interesting year honing my legal skills, embracing a new culture and gaining an international friendship circle.
I applied to Absolute Internship’s legal intern programme for the opportunity to be placed within a top firm and gain a truly international perspective within an emerging market. Not only will I boost my CV with stand-out experience, I will have the opportunity to live in another major city.
Coming to Shanghai will be my first experience of working in my chosen field abroad. I cannot wait to see international law in action and discover first-hand the workings of a global law firm in a new city. I expect that my first time in China will be fast-paced, challenging and hugely enjoyable; I am counting down the days until Shanghai becomes my new home for a month.
