21 Jun Amanda Queiroz tells her experiences in Hong Kong
Who am I?
Hello everyone! My name is Amanda Queiroz and I am 20 years old. I am from São Paulo, Brazil but I have been living in London for the past three years, where I study International Relations at Richmond, the American International University in London.
Living in London is a dream that came true not only of studying abroad, but also to experience different cultures and learn with people. I love to learn new languages and as I have came to notice, if you walk on the streets of London for a day, you will for sure listen to more than 5 languages. How exciting is that?!
After a scholarship competition offered by Absolute Internship and my university to intern in Hong Kong was launched, I submitted my application and was selected for an interview. I was very anxious about the result and I couldn’t be happier when I found out I got it! Hong Kong, here I come!
What will HK bring for my career in IR?
International Relations is a broad field. I have a particular interest in Political Economy and Urbanization, and I hope that my internship will give me more of a foundation to develop my ideas and to work at a Libertarian think tank to discover more of what the free market can do to improve urban livelihoods. Hong Kong is a (successful) example of the free enterprise strategy to build a modern economic centre in Asia.
Coming to HK – June 5th
I fly at 6 p.m. GMT and arrive in Hong Kong on the following day around 1 pm there. So excited for the journey. I know HK is an amazing business hub and amazingly cosmopolitan city. I hope I get to meet many people and learn how their working ethic and style! It will be one on a lifetime experience. I am also eager to eat as much Dim Sum as I can!
