23 Aug Intern in Hong Kong almost over
The first few weekends, I focused on exploring as much as possible. I made a trip to the clock tower in Tsim Sha Tsui and the shopping center there as well. Taking the MTR (the subway) has been fairly easy now. I was worried that I would not know where to go but everything is laid out pretty well for you to find your way around. The clock tower was on the edge of the island, giving me a great skyline view of Central. I decided to walk around the area some more and explore. If you’re looking for high-end shopping, they have everything in Tsim Sha Tsui. I also found a nice Vietnamese restaurant there, definitely a place to check out if in the area. I also tried a Korean rice burger in Sheung Wan, the area of my apartment and was very impressed. The rice burger was extremely cheap but very delicious. This was just one of the many different cuisines that I have tried while in Hong Kong.
Recently, we made a trip to Macau, also known as the Las Vegas of the East. We took a Jet Boat Ferry to Macau and I was extremely excited to see how it was. We arrived and instantly, I saw Macau’s beauty. Macau is a mix of Chinese and Portuguese culture and you can clearly see it in the buildings architecture and basic everyday life. The hotels stood like giants within the city and you instantly see the Grand Hotel in the distance. We took a bus from the ferry terminal to our hotel which was located near the Ruins of St. Paul. We arrived at our hotel and immediately headed into the city for some lunch. We wanted to try some Portuguese cuisine and luckily we found a restaurant near our hotel. We ventured to the Ruins of St. Paul after lunch and were able to snap some pictures there as a group. We were very excited to see the nightlife of Macau and it sure did live up to its name. We jumped from casino to casino most of the night and had a blast meeting people. It was definitely a great time but by morning, most of us were ready to head back to Hong Kong and relax for the day. I’m entering my last week of work and although my time here is coming to a close, I’m going to try to have my favorite restaurants one last time before I leave.
