Transportation in Hong Kong

The Mass Transit Railway is the name for Hong Kong’s rail system including underground, overland and light rail (slower tram-style) services. Generally known as the ‘MTR’ in Hong Kong, it’s clean, fast and safe. The MTR is the quickest way to get around Hong Kong.

You will receive an Octopus Card upon arrival with a monthly stipend. This electronic, stored-value card provides the most convenient way to travel and commute in the city. It can be used on the MTR, public buses and the tramway. The Octopus card can also be used to make food and convenience purchases at designated stores such as 7-Eleven, Starbucks, supermarkets, vending machines and many other shops in Hong Kong.
