13 Feb My application to Absolute Internship
So here I am, it’s 11:00PM and I am sitting at my desk trying to figure out where I am going to be a few months from now. As what usually happens at this hour, I sift through my mind thinking of what I can look up on Google: the world’s top travel destinations, when Season 4 of Game of Thrones is going to finally start, finding out more details on the Justin Bieber arrest, and the list goes on and on. In this lighthearted search, I have decided to take some time to start looking for internships for the Summer. Now, where to go? I know that I am interested in pursuing a career in marketing, but that’s the easy part. Do I want to go to London? Or do I want to see what opportunities Asia has to offer? I also wonder how a panda like me would be able to bear the Summer weather in Central America?
I think hundreds of students, like myself, have this dilemma while trying to figure out where it is that I belong and see myself. After a few hours of doing research and figuring out that teaching Mandarin abroad might not be the best option for me, I have narrowed down my choices. Interestingly enough, I have come across Absolute Internship and after browsing the website and contacting the staff through e-mail – I have decided to apply to their Summer Marketing Program. The four options currently available for applicants are in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Beijing and London. All are interesting cities, that have so much to offer. On first thought, London is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world with so much to offer as far as fashion, art, politics, business and science goes. While on the other hand, Beijing has so much history and is China’s cultural, historical and political capital. Shanghai is quite different than these two cities, and is at the center of China’s boom offering so many exciting new business opportunities and endless possibilities. Last on the list, but definitely not the least……Hong Kong. With it’s unique mix of Eastern and Western culture, values and traditions – there might not be a better place in the world to do business…….Decisions, decisions, decisions.
After filling out the application, I have decided to still think about what location I am looking to go to….so I will keep you posted. In the meantime, I am just sitting here waiting to hear back from Absolute Internship…..and still trying to figure out this whole Justin Bieber thing!
