20 Jul Fantastic Intern Experience In Shanghai
Overall, my intern experience in Shanghai was fantastic.
In terms of adapting to the culture, environment, and food, it took a little more than a week to feel comfortable. I would recommend being open to trying new foods and be prepared to surround yourself in a completely new and exciting environment. Although living in China is vastly different from America, Shanghai is vary westernised, and includes many similar shops and restaurants as in the United States. One thing that I was unprepared for was the lack of patience, and or courtesy that the Chinese people portrayed. The metro was crowed and didn’t smell good, and occupants tried to enter and exit at the same time, causing chaos among metro riders. The real world in China is different from the US.
The size of Shanghai is far greater than my home city of Chicago, so feeling free outside the confines of the city dint quite exist. A population of twenty six million occupies an enormous amount of land, and the quiet grass bedded parks are few and far between. In terms of working instead of studying each day, working won me over. I would rather work on one project that I am passionate about than studied a large variety of classes, some in which, I do not prefer. I enjoyed all of the professional visits and on site tours, but the one that resonated with me the most was the one about marketing your business in China. It blew my mind how different the consumer base was in China compared to the United States. There are far more consumers and they also prefer to use different outlets compared to the US consumer.
Overall, my favorite trip on my adventure to China was my visit to the Great Wall in Beijing. It was a phenomenal experience that I will never forget. The size and distance that the wall occupied fascinated me. I enjoyed working at my company very much, and I learned a lot of skills that I can take with me in the future. I know that this experience will help me to excel in my future endeavors.
