09 Jan Hi again from London!
Hi again from London!
What a week it has been! Having the week off before my internship begins has been very helpful in settling in and getting a grasp on the transportation system and the locations of key amenities. Having not visited London since a young child, I have been very eager to explore the city and visit the popular tourist destinations full of great history. The fellow interns and I have managed to take full advantage of the non-rainy conditions unknown to the London winter and participate in many group activities, including the popular London Tour Bus, where we saw the Big Ben and crossed the London Tower bridge, and the National Art Gallery and Tate Modern, where we viewed such pieces as ‘The Weeping Woman’ by Pablo Picasso and pieces by Monet, Dali and Nolan. Being an art enthusiast I found this particularly meaningful and inspiring.
Throughout the night we have also managed to fit plenty into our schedule; dining out at various restaurants as a group and experiencing the London city nightlife. One such restaurant was the very popular ‘Planet Hollywood’, which sure did not disappoint in its generous servings and great atmosphere – even having a DJ and camera mega screen! London offers a wide variety of different cultural foods, and throughout my time already I have tried Italian, Mexican, Indian and American cuisines. It is very helpful that the housing accommodation has access to gym facilities in this case!
Very differently to Adelaide, we have used the Underground transportation system, which initially after some hesitation and going in the wrong direction a few times has been very easy to navigate in and out of the CBD whether going out to dinner or making our way to the tourist destinations. The location of my work is in fact only a few stops from the housing accommodation, which is very convenient but experiencing rush hour traffic commuting to and from work will be a very insightful but necessary experience as part of living in such a lively city!
This Monday I commence the first day of my finance internship for which I am greatly looking forward to and highly grateful for the opportunity to acquire a more in-depth understanding of the financial system from an international perspective.
Until next time!
