14 Feb A Legal Internship in Asia – Absolute Alumni
Hello! I’m Anna Mcleod, I’m currently studying at Royal Holloway University of London, and I’m an Absolute Internship Alumni and Brand Ambassador. I was a legal intern in Shanghai in summer 2019.
My experience in Shanghai was nothing short of amazing. From the work experience I have gained to making lifelong friends, I can’t be excited enough to embark on my next summer with Absolute in London this year!
A Legal Internship in Asia
My employer in Shanghai was a global law firm. As a law student myself, I appreciate the difficulty it is to find work experience with a reputable firm! The employer exceeded my expectations.
“I was given independent tasks, increasing my responsibility weekly while also getting involved in teamwork with other office employees.”
The office was so welcoming and the employees were very keen to share their experience which made my time there so enjoyable. Beyond the internship, I made friendships which I still maintain!
It’s a daunting task moving to a city and working in a high pressure environment, so to be able to come back to the accommodation and hangout with like minded people was great! The planned social activities and weekend trips were an added bonus! It would be a very lonely month without the Absolute Tribe and I was very grateful for the support and fun times we shared throughout my time in Shanghai.
“It is amazing to meet ambitious international students from all walks of life and they will undoubtedly make great business contacts in the future.”
The Absolute Internship Program
To top it off, the Absolute Internship team were very helpful and made this process as stress free as possible! They helped me to prepare for my interview, apply for my visa and sort out my accommodation. What I found most helpful was having a travel card and sim card set up for me when I arrived so I could hit the ground running and make the most of my experience.
Beyond their help from the office, the program coordinator from Absolute made me feel so comfortable and took a lot of the stress away. As a local from Shanghai, she knew how to navigate the city, translate the language and when I was ill she organised a doctors appointment and accompanied me through the whole process. This aspect of the program brought a lot of relief to my parents and myself since I did not speak Chinese or knew how to navigate through the city.
I am looking forward to interning this summer in London after having such a positive experience and can’t wait to meet more incredible people and gain lifelong skills for my future career!
