The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) is taking place across industries, and fashion is no exception. Technology is innovating the industry in ways we once only imagined, and it’s all happening very quickly. For students, now is the time to dive into opportunities in the intersection of fashion and AI.
One of those students is @Isabel Wheaton, a Business Marketing major at @San Diego State University.

With the help of Absolute Internship, Isabel landed an internship that crosses off not one but multiple passions of hers, with marketing, fashion, and social media being among them. It was located in one of the world’s fashion capitals, too- the City of Light, Paris!

“Outside of work, Absolute Internship has made this experience even more meaningful through trips to Giverny, Bordeaux, Normandy, and Versailles,” she shared.
Throughout her internship, Isabel applied academic knowledge to real-world situations. She also gained invaluable work experience in her field and immersed herself in the exciting future of fashion. After all, her host company, @Younzee, is redefining personal shopping with the innovative use of AI.
AI in fashion – yes or no?
There’s no shortage of controversies on the adoption of AI in companies. Many express concerns about replacing creativity and taking away jobs. But fashion thrives with creativity. Better yet, fashion has no future without creativity. So what does having AI in fashion mean?
Younzee proves that when done right, integrating AI can be useful and not destructive. Instead of taking away opportunities from creatives, they are using AI to improve customer experience by solving long-standing issues like overconsumption and product returns.
With Younzee’s tech, customers can create a digital copy of themselves to try on clothing and discover styles. It also gives recommendations based on the user’s statistics and preferences. This way, people can better visualize how certain pieces will look on them first before buying clothes that won’t get worn at all.

In a fashion-forward city like Paris, it’s no surprise that impressive industry advancements like these are available to students seeking hands-on experience. But what exactly did Isabel’s innovative fashion internship look like?
An internship at the intersection of fashion and AI
Isabel’s internship had been most fruitful. She was exposed to multiple areas within the fashion tech company, from marketing to sales and business development. Among her tasks were:
- Creating content for social media
- Tracking weekly metrics and preparing reports
- Analyzing and understanding clients’ needs
- Pitching Younzee’s products to potential partners
- Building partnerships with global brands
“Direct involvement in this process has been especially valuable in developing an understanding of how businesses build relationships across new markets,” she reflected.

“I’m grateful that I got to be part of such an innovative, creative environment and learn from so many forward-thinking conversations.”
Younzee’s dedication to staying ahead and providing meaningful experiences to aspiring students like Isabel also brought the intern to VivaTech, Europe’s biggest startup and tech event.
Throughout the conference, Isabel represented her host company and spoke with potential partners and clients. She also attended inspiring talks and saw firsthand how various industries are approaching AI with intention. To top it off, she was able to listen to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos talk about continuous improvement and persistence. On that, she said:
“His perspective on failure, persistence, and continuous improvement was a strong reminder that innovation requires both vision and resilience.”
In the three days she spent at the gold standard event, Isabel gained unparalleled exposure and insights that are valuable in just about any industry.
Whether she chooses to ultimately pursue a career in fashion, marketing, or business, her takeaways from Younzee and VivaTech can surely help pave her way to success.
How a global internship makes all the difference
As if Isabel’s internship isn’t impressive enough, the ‘abroad’ factor makes her experience even more outstanding. In Paris, she found herself among the best of the best in fashion. She was also at the forefront of the industry, where the future is being shaped, the competition is high, and the stakes are even higher.

“It has been incredibly valuable to meet professionals, learn from their experiences, and engage with people from different backgrounds throughout the program.”
For fashion companies in the city, that means marketing can easily be the key to growth and success. And for students like Isabel who are still in the humble beginnings of their marketing careers, taking on such big responsibility and making actual, meaningful contributions to such a crucial team is definitely a life-changing experience.
“I loved this program! So amazing to live in another country with a support system and get exposed to international work,” she commented.
