You will be housed in a modern student residence and you will share your room with another intern from the Absolute Internship program. While your room has a small kitchen and bathrooms, your housing building features common spaces free to use such as a beautiful fully-equipped kitchen, a cinema room, a common room and a stunning rooftop terrace. Laundry, vending machines and cleaning services are also available but are not included in your program fee.

With 9 million daily passengers across 285 stations, Tokyo metro system is one of the largest in the world. The stations are all alpha-numerically labeled, so every station gets a letter based on the name of its line. It is by far the easiest way to navigate the city and it runs between 5am to midnight everyday.
You will receive a Tokyo Metro All-line Pass to enjoy unlimited rides on the network.
Tokyo is an exciting, beautiful city, and we’ll be with you every step of the way as you explore it. Our International Internship Program Program in Tokyo is run by a dedicated and knowledgeable team of Absolute staff. We have years of experience welcoming international students to Tokyo and ensuring the safety of our students abroad.
The security department is on call 24 hours a day and 24-7 front desk security is available for you at your housing. Each participant must present his or her Residence ID card in order to enter the residence and access the facilities. Visitors are also required to sign in at the front desk and leave their ID card. The closest outpatients’ clinic is only a minute way by walking from the student residence in case you would fall ill or have an accident.
All cultural excursions and weekend activities in Tokyo have been coordinated with student safety as our top priority. Upon arrival, you’ll have an orientation to familiarize yourself with the housing facilities, neighborhood and public transport. You’ll also be provided with key contact information along with guidance on health and emergency procedures, and staying safe throughout your summer in Japan.

The Tokyo Internship Program provides exciting weekend events in order for you to make the most out of your time living in Japan. Although you will be working during the day, our Tokyo events aim to give you full advantage of what the city has to offer. Even though your internship is the most important, it’s essential that you take advantage of living abroad.
Kamakura is a seaside Japanese city just south of Tokyo. The political center of medieval Japan, modern-day Kamakura is a prominent resort town with dozens of Buddhist Zen temples and Shinto shrines. Its most recognizable landmark is the Kotoku-in Temple’s Great Buddha, a roughly 13m-high bronze statue still standing after a 15th-century tsunami. Yuigahama Beach on Sagami Bay is a popular surfing spot.
Yokohama, a Japanese city south of Tokyo, was one of the first Japanese ports opened to foreign trade, in 1859. It contains a large Chinatown with hundreds of Chinese restaurants and shops. It’s also known for Sankei-en Garden, a botanical park containing preserved Japanese residences from different eras, and the seaside Minato Mirai district, site of the 296m Landmark Tower.
Japan’s Mt. Fuji is an active volcano about 100 kilometers southwest of Tokyo. Commonly called “Fuji-san,” it’s the country’s tallest peak, at 3,776 meters. A pilgrimage site for centuries, it’s considered one of Japan’s 3 sacred mountains, and summit hikes remain a popular activity. Its iconic profile is the subject of numerous works of art, notably Edo Period prints by Hokusai and Hiroshige.
Kyoto, once the capital of Japan, is a city on the island of Honshu. It’s famous for its numerous classical Buddhist temples, as well as gardens, imperial palaces, Shinto shrines and traditional wooden houses. It’s also known for formal traditions such as kaiseki dining, consisting of multiple courses of precise dishes, and geisha, female entertainers often found in the Gion district.
We want to help you build friendships and get to know your new city. Our Absolute Internship staff will be planning unsponsored events for the entire group every week. These events are voluntary, but we recommend that you attend them. Our Tokyo events will help familiarise you with the city, culture, and your fellow interns!
The Career Speaker Series by Absolute Internship takes place in the evenings after work. CEOs, Executives and industry professionals from top firms share their success stories, how they made it and outline the fundamental aspects of preparing for life after the university. You’ll have the chance to listen to how they made a mark in life, and how you can do the same.
The purpose of the series is to inspire you to think about what career you wish to pursue and help you realize that you can accomplish whatever dream you have.
The Speaker Series is an exceptionally valuable aspect of the internship program, as it allows you to gain insight from top influential business people. Moreover, you will spend time building your professional global network, as you will have time to talk with each at the end of their speech and ask any questions that you may have.
In addition to the series, we regularly inform our participants about relevant networking events in the city as we have strong collaborations with some of the largest and most important Chamber of Commerce and specific industry organizations that hold events every month.
Absolute multilingual on-site staff is available 24/7 and is dedicated to delivering a top-quality experience for you to make sure that your stay abroad is as safe as possible.
Staff members will act as program guides, leading you to all the program events and excursions. Our staff will also follow up with you ongoing making sure that you are having a productive time abroad both socially and professionally.
Once you arrive in your host city abroad, we will be picking you up at the airport together with all the other interns and accompany you to the intern housing. We will be providing you with an inclusive Welcome Pack containing a local SIM Card, subway map, transportation card and much more. The same evening we will be treating you for a Welcome Dinner with drinks where you will have the opportunity to meet the other interns and the program staff.
In addition to the Welcome Pack, you will be provided with an Absolute Emergency Card including details of the nearest hospital, police and other important information in the event that something unexpected would happen.
Visas are not required for courses of less than 90 days for nationals of countries within the European Union, as well as the following countries:

When joining the Tokyo program, Absolute Internship will notify you if you need a visa or not. Upon enrolment into the program, should you require a visa, you will receive a list of documents needed for us to complete the process. As the visa process may take up to 5 weeks we will ask you to be very cooperative with us and provide the documents in good time.
The program fee does not include your visa fee and all associated costs. Absolute Internship will assist you in the application process but will not submit or process any visa application on your behalf.
Program inclusions may vary for Spring, Winter, and Fall programs.
For university cohort programs, inclusions may differ based on the agreement between Absolute Internship and your university. Please refer to your acceptance letter or contact your university for details.

No. English is the only language requirement for an Absolute Internship.
We work with both small and large companies with established internship programs. Unfortunately, we can’t provide a list of companies that we work with due to confidentiality reasons.
Joining one of our Tokyo internships, you will reside in high quality student housing, centrally located in the heart of the city. Transport connections are just a short walk away. Living and socialising alongside other students from all over the world will be a fun and memorable part of your summer experience with Absolute Internship.
You will need to purchase your own flights and international insurance. Additionally, you will be required to cover any food, drinks and personal shopping expenses accrued throughout the summer.

Work-based learning is regarded as an educational opportunity, and more often than not visa specifications require that Tokyo internships be unpaid.
Nevertheless, in rare cases, some interns can and do receive renumeration.
Our placement team will not make this a priority when searching for your internship and we therefore recommend that you assume your internship will be unpaid.
Flights are not included in the price but we can help suggest flights for you in advance.
We will help organise group lessons for participants who want to learn Japanese. This is not included in the price. Please speak to the Absolute Internship team before arrival in order to arrange your language lessons.
To be considered for one of Absolute Internship’s Tokyo internships, you must have turned 18 by the program start date.
